P-47C-5 LM-Z (41-6330) 'Moy Tovarish' as flown by Col. Hubert Zemke, CO of the 56th FG, Horsham St Faith, June 1943.

The personal aircraft of Col. Hub Zemke and flown by him on most of his early missions, bore the legendary 'My Tovarish' inscription for a few months in the Spring of 1943, reflecting Zemke's time in the USSR with a RAF unit in 1941. The letter 'Z' reflected Zemke's surname, a priviledge reserved to squads and groups COs only. The name, victory symbols and insigna were removed from the plane during the Summer of 1943 because Zemke felt uneasy about the CO displaying such invidualism. Three of Zemke's kills were scored whileflying this machine.
The plane was written off the suadron's lists after Lt. Adam Wisniewsky bellied it at Manston on Christmas Eve 1943.
